Album cover art

[edit]

I have attempted to change the section on the album cover to reflect that the second model on the cover is not Olympian Shelley Mann, who would have been way too old in 1980 to serve as one of the models. There is a YouTube interview (which I cited in my edit) taken at a 2024 Roxy Music convention in which Roslyn Bolton, the model on the back cover, said that it was not Mann on the front cover but an 18-year-old model she didn't know whose first name she thought was Rachel. I also included some additional details Bolton mentioned in the interview, including that the shoot started at 9 p.m. and ended about 3:30 a.m., and that the costumes had been made on the spot because it was all on short notice and the designers didn't have the models' measurements in advance. I thought I cited everything correctly including a link to the YouTube video, but my changes were immediately deleted and the article reverted. I don't see what I did wrong, but put this here in talk so that anyone who wants to know who was on the album cover will at least have a clue how to find out. The false information about Shelley Mann on the cover has traveled far and wide. It would be nice if an attempted correction would not get stamped out so quickly. I suppose bringing this up in talk is also some violation. 209.96.2.5 (talk) 16:34, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Rolling Stone reviews, really?

[edit]

Why give such prominence to reviews from Rolling Stone? Rolling Stone was an american reactionary US centric publication which has no significance whatsoever for very larger numbers of music fans around the world. In fact it is have more often been a benchmark for the bland and the inane. White metal and country rock is not popular outside of the USA. If you want to know more about Roxy Music you would do better to read European or South American reviews.

US tastes in music and music publications have been tainted by enthusiastic and unembarrassed racism. The greatest american music is Jazz, Soul and Blues. Most of it had to be reinvented and sanitised for the American audience.

The use of the contemporary review of this album in Rolling Stone is a distortion of history. No one cared what rolling Stone thought. Anyone who did decided to turn into Billy Idol. Wiki is great but it is the equivalent of a US Encyclopedia and should not be taken as authoritative, especially when it deals with anything outside of the USA. Some things the USA just does not get. It is culturally conservative and artistically strictured. 2001:BB6:53CB:8058:F4F6:DA24:90BF:9FC0 (talk) 10:11, 10 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
